AC Stream at Balga Senior High School

The Australian Curriculum (AC) stream provides students with a strong sense of belonging in and out of the classroom. This sense of belonging is built through quality teacher-student relationships which are embedded in the pastoral care philopsphy of our school. Our teachers prioritise students’ emotional and social wellbeing in order to develop their academic achievement. This translates into classrooms that are supportive, caring and conducive to student learning.
The focus of the AC stream is to:
  • Quality teaching – our lessons are well structured providing clarity and feedback to each student. Students are given explicit and meaningful feedback to allow them to further understand how they can improve their results;
  • The creation of a supportive learning environment- our goal is to provide students with a safe and supportive classroom, which encourages students to take educational ‘risks’ in their learning. By taking risks students develop a higher level of participation in the classroom, and are able to build on their confidence as they trust their surrounding;
  • Opportunities for learning- we strive to provide each student with rich learning opportunities. Our focus on pastoral care and an excellent Behaviour Management Policy enables our teachers to deliver quality teaching in the classroom. Students participate in a range of learning opportunities that are based on promoting engagement through sustaining student interest in a range of learning activities;
  • Differentiated learning- our teachers recognise the individual learning needs of their students and create learning strategies to assist them in their learning. Along with this, student learning styles are catered for to ensure that their classroom environment enhances their learning opportunities;
  • High expectation of student performance- our teachers expect students to achieve to the best of their ability. To assist them teachers use a broad range of teaching and assessment strategies to optimise a student’s capacity to learn and to demonstrate what they know.
We are very proud of the high level of education we provide to our students. Our students display a determined commitment to their learning and a strong desire to succeed. The commitment that our teachers make to student learning is expectional. Our classrooms foster positive learning spaces that provide our studens with the tools they need for further education.
“I love my class because we all enjoy working and learning together.  Our teachers care about us and want us to succeed in our learning” Paw Nay Year 8AC
 “My experience in the AC stream has been extraordinary. I have learnt a lot in my classes, thanks to my teachers who are dedicated to seeing me do well and to the students that are in my class” William Year 8AC
